Pictureless Comics

Here are a few comics I did as experiments in the concept of "Pictureless Comics." I tried to create comics using only the conventional icons and symbols and structures of comics without any real drawing or pictures, so to speak. I'd also consider the first two "color field" comics, as they bring the concept of that style of painting to the comics panel.

"Elegy for G.S." was done in honor of author Gilbert Sorrentino who died May 18, 2006. The text in the bottom half of each panel is quoted from his works. This comic originally appeared in The Quarterly Conversation.
